Lessons in Positive Psychology for our Year 7 students

We are this year again proud to support the important work of the Hummingbird Project, and our Year 7s are continuing with their involvement in the 6 week programme. They are pictured above this morning participating in the second of the workshops on the `Benefits of Happiness`.

The Hummingbird Project is a Positive Psychology intervention, put together by the charity Medequip4Kids, in conjunction with the University of Bolton, the University of Chester and the Open University, and it is delivered to 7,048 students across 62 schools in the North West:

"Applying the concepts of Positive Psychology, the Hummingbird Project gives young people coping techniques, resilience and a greater understanding of their own personal strengths. Together we’re reducing stigma and providing hope".1

The first session involved completion of questionnaires, as well as an introduction to the project for students and teachers. Sessions 2 to 5 teach various concepts from Positive Psychology, comprising: happiness, gratitude, kindness, mindfulness, character strengths, hope, and growth mindsets.

The final session will include the completion of written questionnaires using the same scales mentioned above, and will be an opportunity for students and staff to gain advice and information on how to build on the concepts introduced in previous sessions for use in the future.

With huge thanks to the Hummingbird Project for working with our Year 7 students and staff; for more information, visit:
