ugs champions inspirational women in trafford

Feminist Society & Mrs Wall work with former student Archie towards Trafford's celebration of International Women's Day!

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome back former student Archie, who now works for Yellow Jigsaw Media Cubs, and is pictured below in action with Year 12 Maisie and Mrs Wall, in an initiative organised by our Feminist Society and Mrs Bourne to support Councillor Joanne Harding's forthcoming event to celebrate International Women's Day in Trafford.

Councillor Harding is spearheading a campaign to champion and nominate the borough's inspirational women as part of Trafford's International Women's Day awards. Of course, here at UGS, we have been extremely fortunate to benefit from the leadership of a truly inspirational woman for a significant number of years, and so Feminist Society's Headlines and Heroines News Team decided that we could play our part in contributing a very special nomination for Mrs Wall.

To that end, they were excited to invite media agency professionals Kirsty and Archie from Yellow Jigsaw to film Year 12 reporter Maisie interviewing Mrs Wall as she reflected on her incredible career in education, her many achievements, the legacy she leaves behind as she approaches retirement this summer, and on what she sees as being important for women and girls in the area, as Maisie here shares:

Yesterday, I was able to interview Mrs Wall and find out all about her experience as a woman in leadership and education over the last 20 years at Urmston Grammar. As a member of Urmston’s Feminist Society, it was incredible to hear from such an inspirational woman who has achieved such success, and about the lasting impact she hopes to have left on Urmston Grammar, particularly as a role model for young women.

The opportunity to be involved in Cllr. Joanne Harding’s International Women’s Day event on March 8th is extremely exciting, and a great event to direct our Feminist Society work around!

With huge thanks to Kirsty and Archie for visiting UGS to film our interview, to Mrs Wall for her inspirational words, to Maisie, and to Mrs Bourne and Feminist Society for organising this wonderful opportunity.
