year 11 visit Oxford university

The city of dreaming (in)spires Year 11!

Mrs Rogers and Mr Gough accompanied 23 Year 11 students to Oxford this week, as they sought to have a taste of life at one of the world's oldest and most prestigious seats of learning.

The group visited Oxford University's second-smallest college, Corpus Christi, where they were treated to a thoroughly informative talk about Oxford University, and university in general.

Thereafter, Year 11s were involved in some academic 'taster' sessions, during which they experienced an English Literature seminar, and attended a lecture on electron microscopy.

Lunch in the college dining hall aroused thoughts of Hogwart's, but the real highlight of the meal was the opportunity for our Year 11s to chat to current Corpus Christi students, and to find out a bit more about life as a 'Corpuscule' (as the students at Corpus are known).

A tour of the college, which features some of the old city walls as part of its buildings, was followed by a visit to Oriel College, where a tour of one of Oxford's oldest colleges took place.

Our Year 11s have hopefully now been given an insight into both life at university, and life at Oxford, which will surely inspire them to follow their academic dreams, wherever these are fulfilled.

As Mr Gough proudly shares: "The group were fantastic ambassadors for Urmston Grammar, and have helped ensure a lasting partnership between Corpus Christi and UGS.

A special thanks to Mrs Rogers for agreeing to step in to accompany the trip at short notice"!

With huge thanks to Mr Gough for this report and to Mrs Rogers for the fantastic photographs.
