black history month

House Reading Challenge as Black History Month begins

To mark the beginning of Black History Month 2024, our Library is excited to launch a House Reading Challenge with the aim of both encouraging our students to explore the wealth of diverse fiction and non-fiction titles stocked at UGS, and to showcase all the resources and books that are available to them.

The first of our students to visit a dedicated display in the LRC are pictured above at break.

We have been proud to significantly expand our range of diverse books in recent years, and to have incorporated recommendations and inspiration from our student voice.

We know that our students are keen to develop their knowledge, awareness, and understanding of international and national black history, and to learn more about figures and pioneers from all fields, including politics, culture and sport,

The theme for BHM this year is Reclaiming Narratives, and to chime with this at UGS we have a great many more whole school initiatives on the calendar for the coming month, including an event in the planning from our fantastic TARA (Trafford School's Anti-Racism Alliance) ambassadors, and a special Assembly.

We can't wait to share more news over the course of October about Black History Month at UGS.
