our Tara ambassadors deliver today's assembly

Great work from Year 9 students Siya, Diane and Nini as they celebrate Refugee Week
This week marks Refugee Week UK 2024 and our TARA ambassadors (Trafford Schools Anti-Racism Alliance) have been keen to celebrate and to raise awareness about this important national event.
They worked hard on creating and delivering a fact-file and presentation on the significance of the week itself, and on its theme for 2024: "Our Home".
Just 3 of our TARA ambassadors: Siya, Diane, and Nini, are pictured in the Main Hall as they closed the Assembly, in which they shared with our school community some data and statistics on the current UK standing. They celebrated the recent appointment of former refugee Lillian Seenoi-Barr as Northern Ireland's first black mayor, and the many international events that have taken place over the last year in support and celebration of the cause, including the magnificent 12ft tall puppet Amal's tour of cities. Amal was the creation of the Handspring Puppet Company, to represent Syrian refugees, and has played a vital role in raising awareness about the plight of child refugees.
Siya, Diane, and Nini also spoke about and strongly recommended Fabio Geda's poignant book In the Sea There are Crocodiles, the moving story of Afghan refugee Enaiat.
Finally, our ambassadors shared information about how our school community can find out still more about Refugee Week, about how to get involved, and about all the national events that are available to participate in.
Windrush Day
Our TARA representatives are also keen to raise awareness about Windrush Day tomorrow, and Diane put a great deal of effort into creating a superbly well-researched information chart that has been posted in school. Well done Diane!
Huge congratulations and thanks to Siya, Diane, and Nini for today's presentation, and also to Asfer 7R who helped to create the assembly, but is out of school today on the Year 7 Science Discovery trip to Chester Zoo - details to follow!
And finally .... our Year 10s are also out today enjoying a reward for all their hard work this year with a trip to Alton Towers!
