Students share their celebrations of Eid

In our lead picture are some of our students: Zak, Asfer, and Niniola, who have shared their reflections on Eid, and how they celebrated with family, friends and their local community.

Eid is a very special time for Muslims all around the world. Eid-Ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, and is the smaller Eid. Eid is a time to rejoice, for friends and families to meet together and have feasts, and it is tradition to go for the Eid prayer wearing your best clothes and applying perfume. But it is also custom and tradition to give Eidiya: gifts of money to children and friends.

Myself and my family headed for the Eid prayer at 10:00. The Imam gave the khutbah (Arabic for speech) and we prayed, and then we went to buy some cake as well!

After that, my brothers and father headed to a friend's house and gave them some gifts. Once we arrived home, we relaxed and continued with our work. It was a very enjoyable day.

Eid is the celebration of the end of Ramadan which consists of 30 days, where you have to fast from dusk until dawn. Eid is a special time for family to come together and to eat a variety of different traditional foods and desserts.

For me, the best part of Eid is getting together with family and going to the local mosque for Eid prayer. We receive money and gifts from our family and friends, and get changed into our favourite new clothes.

It was great to get together and stay up late into the night chatting and socialising with friends and family.

I celebrated Eid by joining my community for Eid prayers. They gave out sweets to the children and food to the adults.

We took photos with each other, and it was good to talk about our experiences of Ramadan.

With huge thanks to the students for sharing their experiences and celebrations.
