iftar

`Amazing first event`: Iftar at UGS organised by 6th Form ISOC committee in collaboration with Islamic Relief

We were delighted this evening to host the very first Iftar at UGS:

It was organised by our fantastic student society ISOC, led by our Sixth Form students, in collaboration with Islamic Relief, and supported fund-raising for the Yemen appeal and families in need. In all, the event welcomed a fantastic 150 guests:

The students, and our Sixth Form ISOC committee in particular: Mostafa, Rania, Noon, Sophia, Adam and Ahmed, have worked hard with Islamic Relief to organise all aspects of the sold-out evening: ticket sales, promotion, administration, food and refreshments, fund-raising activities, and welcoming visiting representatives.

The evening comprised a three course buffet meal, Quran recitation, a Ramadan presentation, fundraising activities, and Maghreb prayer in congregation.

The venue was our Main Hall, pictured below when it had just been set up beautifully for the evening, and photographed by ISOC committee member Year 12 Adam and Year 10 ISOC member Aizah, whose report on the event follows:

The Yemen appeal raised a huge amount of money, with many people donating significant sums.

We had an auction where a painting sold for £240

,And we sold some really lovely cupcakes at the end, both donated by students.

The food was provided by Islamic relief, who also helped to set everything up.

The ISOC committee worked hard to do this, along with volunteers who helped. It took a lot of time and effort to set up, and, in the end, they managed to raise a lot of money.

People were so happy, and personally, it was an amazing first event: the food was great, as were the speeches and fundraisers that took place.

Thanks so much to all the people from our Urmston Grammar community who donated their money towards many food parcels for the people in Yemen that will be given to families in need, and to all the representatives from Islamic Relief who helped to make this wonderful evening happen.

At the close of the event, representatives from Islamic Relief congratulated the ISOC committee on their phenomenal efforts, commenting that they work with many schools in the North West, but that our fantastic student representatives at UGS had truly impressed with their energy, dedication and hard work towards the organisation and running of the evening.

And in an amazing achievement, a truly impressive figure of over £5000 was raised. With huge thanks to all who contributed time and donations towards the success of the evening.

Really well done, we are so proud of you all!
