British science week at ugs: day 3

Exploring the respiratory system and a Timer challenge!

It's day 3 of our week's programme of events in celebration of British Science Week, and there were two extra-curricular opportunities arranged for our KS3 students to get involved in.

Exploring the Lungs and Respiratory System

In our lead picture and below, Mrs Walsh can be seen leading an interactive session for Year 7 on explorations into the respiratory system.

Year 7 were really keen to learn more, and it was an exciting and edifying session, hugely enriching their study of Biology here at UGS.

The Timer Challenge

Further up the corridor in another of our laboratories, KS3 were invited to participate in the Timer Challenge, and tasked with making a Marble Run Timer.

Organised and led by Assistant Head and Physics teacher Miss Lowe, this challenge ties in perfectly with the main theme of British Science Week this year: Time, and is a great way for students to interactively explore and engage with the laws of Physics in action.

In our pictures are Year 8s Ellie, Kobe and Thomas:

And in other extra-curricular news ... Sixth Form led Craft Club!

As well as these fantastic opportunities to engage with Science during lunchbreak today, our Sixth formers have also organised a Craft Club, and can be seen enjoying this chance to come together as a community and relax, while engaged in crafting some gorgeous productions.

Great work all, with huge thanks to all the staff and students who make these enriching opportunities possible for all in our wider school community!
