ugs politics students make their mark

Year 12 students organise UK Youth Parliament event for all in school & the results are in!

Last week, our Year 12 Politics Students and the Politics Society, as part of a UK Youth Parliament initiative, organised the Make Your Mark event in our Auditorium for students from all year groups, and pictured at its start are just some of the hundreds who turned out to participate and to cast their vote on the topics that they care about the most.

As Head of Politics Mr Corrigan shared in a special Assembly, the UK Youth Parliament provides an opportunity for young people to select the issues that will be debated and promoted this year, and representatives from it get the opportunity to meet in the House of Commons, and to debate the core issues that matter most to young people.

It is fantastic that our Year 12s and the Politics Society arranged this great opportunity for our students to get involved in a National project, to share their voice, and to progress skills key to personal, academic and professional development.

And today Mr Corrigan has been pleased to announce that the results of our in-house vote are in:

"The most popular issue was Climate Change and the Environment, followed by Jobs and the Economy. The votes have now been submitted to the national count, and its result should be announced later this month".

With huge thanks to our Sixth Formers and Mr Corrigan for arranging this and to all the students who participated.

And we look forward to hearing the results of the National Count.
