visiting vet careers speaker & national apprenticeship week at ugs

Delighted to welcome Vet & Clinical Director Rachel Gili-Ross to inspire our students

This week, as part of their ongoing provision, the Careers department have been busy as ever providing our students with a range of opportunities to plan for and support their next steps.

Firstly, they were delighted to host visiting speaker and practising Veterinary Surgeon and Clinical Director of Heywood Veterinary Centre Rachel Gili-Ross, who spoke to our students to discuss and advise on pathways into the profession.

Rachel has worked at award-winning practice Heywood - who achieved accreditation and a Practice Standards award from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2018, and the silver award for Cat Friendly status by the International Society of Feline Medicine - for 5 years.

Rachel shared her own journey into working this field, from school through study and qualification at the Royal Veterinary College, and our students were able to hear first-hand about the day-to-day working life of a vet and its challenges and rewards, and were then pleased to have the opportunity to field their own questions.

Rachel was also able to offer and discuss invaluable and sought-after work-experience opportunities.

With huge thanks to Rachel for giving her time to deliver this informative session in support of our students, and to the Careers department for organising it.

National Apprenticeship Week

There have also been visiting speakers, daily interactive activities, and information shared to mark and celebrate National Apprenticeship Week here at UGS.

On Monday representatives from MMU visited school to talk to Year 12 about Degree Apprenticeships, all that they involve, and strategic applications.

And on Friday Trafford College delivered an informative session to Year 10 on apprenticeships and T-Levels.

Finally, activities and quizzes have been taking place in form throughout the week, supported by posters and information circulated on all that there is to know about Apprenticeships and pathways to them, and the Careers department would like to give a huge shout out to form 11S for their excellent engagement and 10/10 score in one of these. Well done!
