guys & dolls!

The spirit of Broadway is well & truly in the air at UGS in our magnificent production!

It's here at last, and the glorious premiere took place last night!

You really do not want to miss out on this epic show from our wonderful Performing Arts students, with some tickets still available for this evening's performance and for closing night tomorrow.

In an all-singing, all-dancing showcase of talent, we were transported to the gambling underworld of New York (Runyonland), and to the delights of Havana, meeting a host of gamblers, gangsters, crapshooters, showgirls, and missionaries along the way.

I wouldn't want to spoil the plot, but there are phenomenal group ensembles:

Fantastic duets, way too many to single out, but including Year 10 Evangeline as Sky and Year 11 Sophie as Sarah:

Year 9 Adam as Mr Abernathy and Sophie (Sarah):

And Year 9 Evelyn (Adelaide) and Sophie:

The solos showcased both soaring and nerve-tingling vocals, not least from Year 11 Diego as Nicely-Nicely Johnson:

And Evelyn as Adelaide:

We were treated to a sheer breadth of acting prowess, as conflict, rivalry, skulduggery, and romance lit up the stage:

There was also total mastery of the accent (again with too many stand-out performances to name-check them all), but Year 13 George was just one of the performers who delivered as Nathan Detroit:

As did Year 11 Aaron, aka sinister gangster Big Jule, who arrives to shake up the guys with his own personal and very dubious lucky dice!

There are not only vocal skills a plenty on show, however, but some truly superb footwork:

Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and the ensemble took their leave in a glorious finale to some much-deserved rapturous applause:

Really, really well done, we are super proud of you all, and not forgetting the students who flexed their technical skills behind the scenes to make this truly great performance what it was. And it's an absolute joy to see students from across the whole school community, and from all year groups, work together on such an enriching opportunity.

It's an absolute must-see, with huge thanks to all our amazing students, and of course to the staff from the Performing Arts department, whose dedication and support for the performers makes these wonderful events all possible.
