new term house library reading challenge

Resolution Read launches!

Happy New Year to all in our wider Urmston Grammar community, and we're kick-starting the new term absolutely resolute to our commitment to literacy and to our whole school reading programme with the launch of the first of the 2024 House Library challenges: Resolution Read; and pictured above are some of our Year 7s and 8s getting involved at lunchtime.

Students are invited to participate by collecting a challenge sheet from the LRC, and to engage in a series of reading resolutions, inspired by a multitude of genres, from traditional and contemporary Classics, Adventures & thrillers, Fantasy, Dystopias, Science Fiction, Non-Fiction, Biographies, and our Urmston 100 Reading list; all while taking the opportunity to explore the available titles in the LRC, Reading Room, and on our e-book platform.

They will be awarded house-points for each of the resolutions that they successfully undertake, and there will be prizes for the students who complete the highest number.

A great way for students to start the New Year and to advance their UGS reading journey, while participating in our House system and earning points.

And really well done to Year 8 Lily, who was the very first to collect a challenge sheet at break, selecting to read a book from the Urmston 100 list as her first resolution, with an excellent choice in Adeline Yen Mah's Chinese Cinderella!
