house public speaking competition

Students impress with their oratory skills this lunchtime

Head of English Mrs Derby today organised the first of the Lower School House Public Speaking competitions, a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop and showcase their skills in the debating field.

Pictured above and below are the debut team, Thomas 7U (Oak house), Conan 9S (Mersey) and Edward 8S (Oak).

Their brief was to debate whether all forms of gambling should be banned, and all spoke with confidence and eloquence, and fielded a range of questions from the audience with aplomb and style.

They impressed not only the audience but the judging panel, Mrs Wall and Mrs Harness, and the team will progress to the next round on Thursday.

It promises to be yet more competitive, and we look forward to the next verbal volley!

An amazing opportunity for our students to develop personal and social skills that will be invaluable as they progress towards their academic and professional pathways.

With huge thanks to Mrs Derby for organising, to the staff who supported the event, and to the students for their participation.
