d of E students navigate the dales

Year 10 and Year 12 students hone their outdoor skills while training for D of E award!

Over 100 UGS students from the 2 Year groups were out on D of E expeditions in the Yorkshire Dales over the weekend: Year 12 students, completing the Silver award, received navigation and camp craft training, and undertook 50km of walking to complete their practice over 2 days.

Saturday's route, over the moors from Hawes to Dent, was particularly challenging, but all students impressed by making it to their destination.  The Silver group will be heading to the Lake District in July to complete their assessed expedition.

Year 10 students, meanwhile, were completing their assessed expedition this weekend, and walked over 25km in total.  As Mrs Chadwick, one of the staff members accompanying the trip, reports: "They are now nearing completion of their Bronze awards and should be very proud of everything that they have achieved".

Well done all! And as you can see from the pictures, the weather across the border was certainly favourable - let's hope it continues into July for the final qualifying expedition!
