biology field trip

Our Year 13 Biologists conduct studies in scenic Cranedale!
Yesterday, our Year 13 A Level Biologists safely arrived at the fantastic Crandale Centre near Malton, North Yorkshire, for their 3-day residential field trip.
The field study course is an integral part of the programme of study for the AQA Advanced Biology specification and provides our students with an opportunity to develop knowledge of the practical application of field study techniques, and is, therefore, crucially important in supporting the delivery of the ‘Energy & Ecosystems’ content of the course.
Investigative studies started with trapping (and then releasing!) mammals in order to estimate the population.
The residential trip also facilitates an opportunity to complete an essential ‘Required Practical Activity’ specified by the examination board, and our students undertake investigative sampling techniques across a range of ecosystems, while developing their practical competency.
Hence, our biologists enthusiastically threw themselves into a spot of pond sampling!
A great enrichment opportunity for all, with huge thanks to all of our staff supporting the trip and to our hosts at the Cranedale Centre.
