lacrosse world championship succes

Best in Europe: huge congratulations to former students Oscar, Archie & the U20 National team!
We're excited to share news about the awe-inspiring success of former students Oscar and Archie, (pictured above 2nd & 4th) who, in an amazing achievement, were selected to represent the country and compete with the U20 Men's Lacrosse team at this weekend's world championships in Jeju, South Korea.
The team played superbly in the tournament (that took place in challenging conditions with temperatures in the mid-30s) against exceptional opposition, finishing 7th in the World and best in Europe!
Along the way, they beat Korea, Jamaica (twice), New Zealand (after facing a scary haka war challenge), and Mexico.
They had a close loss against Puerto Rico, and although they were beaten by the USA, they enjoyed the learning experience!
We were delighted as a school to support the team's fund-raising raffle for the trip, and to contribute towards it with the proceeds from our PTA summer fair, and as proud dad Mr McCarthy shares: "The lads were grateful for the support from UGS, and the experience has been a physical and emotional adventure for all involved.
Oscar was awarded 'Team England midfielder of the tournament' by the coaches for his resilience in all the roles he played. His notional role was to control the midfield ... but as the tournament went on and others got injured or exhausted, he stepped into other roles, including the very specialised and physical 'face-off' role, against powerful USA, Puerto Rican and Jamaican players".
We could not be more delighted to share this amazing news and to pass on our huge congratulations to Oscar, Archie and team. We wish them a safe journey back, lots of rest, and the very best wishes for their next steps, which for Oscar involves starting a Biomedical Sciences degree at MMU.
With huge thanks to Oscar, Archie and family for sharing these wonderful photographs from the event.
