adventure story winners

Celebrating the winners of our author guest-judged creative writing competition!

We're delighted to announce the winners of our recent creative writing competition, a collaboration with author and scriptwriter Daniel Dockery and Urmston Bookshop, who visited us for a very special event for Year 7 at the end of May, when the competition was launched.

Daniel guest-judged all of our students' stories, kindly providing extensive authorial feedback to each of our entrants in a fantastic opportunity for them, and gifted the winners' prizes to school.

Daniel shared with the students how impressed he was by the standard of their writing and by their creativity:

Thank you so much for all these amazing stories. I was absolutely blown away by them all, and it’s clear to see how much effort and imagination you’ve all put into them.

We’ve travelled across the world, from Mexico and Hawaii, to fictional lands. We’ve spanned nearly 3000 years of tales, from Viking sagas right though to futuristic robotic lands. We’ve seen magic and might, hope and tragedy, and some of the best danger-filled adventures I could ever hope to see. A lot of the time, the characters won. Some of the times, they didn’t. And so many of the stories were just the opening act to future events and adventures that I can’t wait to hear about.

For each entry, I’ve hopefully given you some helpful feedback, asked a few questions and given you enough to inspire you to keep exercising those writing skills.

As for the winners, it’s always a near impossible task. The standard for these was through the roof. And, as always, when you’re shot through the ceiling and into space, you have to take your time to do as best you can in a tough situation. You should all be rightfully proud.

Daniel awarded first prize to Zoe 7U and Hasti 7T, and commendations to: Toby 7U, Rowan 7R, Brooke 7M, Charlie 7S, Rory 7S, Anita 7T, Ted 7T, Muhammad 8R and Ruby 8T.

Really well done all, we could not be more proud!

With huge thanks to Daniel and to Urmston Books and Boardgames for organising this wonderful experience and opportunity for our students and for kindly providing voucher prizes for our winners.
