year 7 visit chester zoo

Fantastic scientific discovery trip for our Year 7s!
In what is a long-established UGS tradition, yesterday our Year 7 scientists headed to Chester Zoo for an enriching Science Discovery trip.
Core to Year 7's independent learning experience, this trip is designed to develop their critical thinking, as well as their scientific knowledge and investigative skills; and, of course, it's lots of fun!
Year 7 were tasked with finding out information on two animals of their choice from endangered and near threatened species, orangutans, jaguars, black rhinoceros and Sulawesi crested macaques.
The students found out as many facts as possible about the animals, their natural habitats, and the factors threatening their environment and survival, as well as the work carried out by Chester Zoologists on the effective management of populations of species both in situ (in the wild) and ex situ (in zoos and breeding centres) through research, conservation breeding, welfare and monitoring.
The students carefully made notes and endeavoured to find out as much information as possible.
Having successfully completed their visit, Year 7 are now challenged to create informative fact files to submit to a competition. We can't wait to see the results and to celebrate the winners!
With huge thanks to all the staff who supported the trip and to our hosts at Chester Zoo.
