work experience week

Year 10 enjoy occupational placements as they build skills in a wide range of sectors

Facilitated by our Careers department working with employers and businesses throughout Greater Manchester and Cheshire, throughout this week for Year 10, and next week for Year 12, our students are exploring the world of work, and are enjoying acquiring professional skill-sets in a huge variety of fields.

In our lead picture, Oluwasikemi, Othniel, Arun and James can be seen at Apadmi in Salford Quays, during a placement visit from our Head Of Careers, Mrs Kinder. The students have made a fantastic impression, enjoying spending time with the different teams in this busy tech company, including working on coding, testing and marketing. The students love the vibrant nature of this business (who are huge supporters of our careers programme), and they really appreciate how enjoyable the company has made the experience for them.

Our Head Mrs Wall today visited Patrick (below) at Avison Young:

This morning Patrick has been up on the roof of the Royal Exchange.

This afternoon he will be involved in a demolition feasibility study. It's been such a varied week with site visits as well as office-based tasks. And what fantastic surroundings to be a part of: staff (including Patrick) get access to a terrace overlooking the Manchester skyline.

Jonah has spent the week with Salford Red Devils and impressed all with his enthusiasm and commitment, including first team player Charlie and Head Coach Danny (pictured with Jonah below):

Many of our staff have visited our students on placement, including our Co-Head, Mr Kennedy-Fowler, who visited Jacob (pictured below) at Chapman Taylor Architects, finding him focusing on a project to create a design to use one of Manchester's many vacant railway arches.

And Vanessa and Nini (pictured below), who are enjoying working at Motel One, and have impressed staff with their work ethic and enthusiasm. They are spending a day in each of the following areas: front desk and customer relations; food service; maintenance; and housekeeping.

Yusuf (below) is at Veritas Solicitors, and each day is shadowing a different solicitor with different specialisms, such as Civil Litigation and Commercial Law.

Miss Marshall visited Emeka at March Engineering:

Elia and Martha at IWM North:

And Sophie at Morson Group:

We could not be more proud of the glowing feedback shared by employers about our students, and we look forward to sharing more updates soon.

Huge thanks to all the organisations who have provided these fantastic vocational learning opportunities for our students, to our Careers department, and to the staff who have visited Year 10 on placement.
