congratulations to y12 Adam

Adam wins prestigious commendation in Oxford University Translation Prize!

We're delighted to share news that one of our Year 12 MFL students, Adam, pictured this morning proudly being presented with his certificate by Mrs Chadwick, has achieved phenomenal success with his French prose entry to the prestigious Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators (organised by Queen's College, Oxford), and it has been commended by the judges as one of the best in the North West!

Queen's College observe, in awarding prizes: "Over 22,000 students participated in the competition in 2025, and we judged almost 5,000 entries, so this is a fantastic achievement.

Our judges also commented on the very high standard of entries this year and remarked that it was extremely hard to choose winners and commendations."

Mrs Chadwick, who ran the competition this year at UGS, proudly shares: "Adam is one of our most talented linguists, and studies A level French and German.  He entered for both languages, and this outstanding commendation for his French prose translation is a huge achievement!

We also had some fabulous entries from Luca (Y12), Amanda (Y12), Leah (Y8) and Haniel (Y8), which we were delighted to submit.  The competition will run again next year, but for anyone looking for a linguistic challenge in the meantime, please contact Mrs Rogers, who is collating entries for a poetry translation competition".

Really well done Adam and huge thanks to Mrs Chadwick and our MFL department for organising these wonderful opportunities for our students.
