Sixth form german symposium

Our Y12 German students attend a fantastic day at Manchester Grammar
Today our Year 12 German students headed to Manchester Grammar for the Sixth Form German Symposium.
Mrs Chadwick shares that it has been a fantastic experience for all, and they enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a full day's programme of events and to meet in the region of 100 students of German from schools across the North of England.
They attended talks from a fantastic range of speakers on a breadth of topics:
Prof Matthew Jefferies (University of Manchester) on Heinrich Simon, the 1848 Revolutions and the Making of Modern Manchester
Prof Sascha Stollhans (University of Leeds) on German: a living and diverse language
Prof Allyson Fiddler (University of Lancaster) on A Taste of Austria in Language and Culture
Claire Storey (Literary translator and International Book Scout) on Translating Children's Novels
David Binns (Director of UK Operations, Sanako UK Ltd) on Modern Languages in the Working World
Katja Hoyer (Historian & author) on Beyond the Wall: East Germany 1949-1990
It has been a superb enrichment experience for our students and an excellent opportunity to broaden their linguistic knowledge, thinking and critical evaluation skills.
With huge thanks to our hosts at Manchester Grammar and to Mrs Chadwick and team German for organising and supporting this wonderful opportunity for our MFL students.
