explosive finale to science week!

Our week's programme of events ends with a flash bang of a show and a fantastic Natural Dyes workshop!
It's been a fantastic British Science week here at UGS, with daily opportunities for our students to participate in a wide variety of workshops and to enjoy some spectacular hands-on learning, not only on our Science corridor, but in collaboration with departments including DT, RE, and today, Art, with a Natural Dyes workshop:
The department was delighted to host this opportunity for our students to design and create using natural products.
Flash Bang Show!
But what better way to round off the week than with some explosive chemical reactions and the opportunity to have the senses dazzled by chemistry in action, as seen in our lead picture and below.
Miss Ghaffur and Mr Dodd left our young scientists in awe as they explored and demonstrated the chemical wonders of elephant's toothpaste (hydrogen peroxide solution, washing-up liquid and potassium iodide); and cannon fire, or potassium magnate, hydrogen peroxide solution, and ethanol in very loud exothermic reaction!
With huge thanks to all the staff who have contributed to a wonderful British Science Week here in school, and to all our students who did us proud with their enthusiastic engagement and participation!
