year 9 re trip

Our Year 9 RE students take part in a wonderful educational visit to Manchester Central Mosque
Over the course of 3 days this week, all of our year 9 students have visited the historic Manchester Central Mosque with Ms Stedman, Mr Uthman and Mr Panter. A crucial component of the Year 9 Religious Studies curriculum and teaching during the 3-year GCSE course, our students get the opportunity to learn about the building and its importance to the community and to the Faith, and to gain a greater insight into, and understanding of, Islam.

MCM has served the city centre vicinity since the early 1900s, and was originally comprised of 2 adjacent buildings until they were amalgamated and developed into MCM in the 1970s.

The highlight of the visit was meeting the Mosque’s Imam, who gave a fascinating talk and answered students’ questions with great knowledge and enthusiasm.

They learnt a great deal about the 5 pillars of Islam, Wudu, and the ways in which Islam shapes a Muslim's way of life. After a wonderful tour of the mosque:

The group headed to a nearby restaurant to enjoy some amazing food together, returning to school after lunch with full stomachs and plenty of new knowledge, having had an enjoyably educational and memorable experience!
With huge thanks to our fantastic hosts at Manchester Central Mosque!
