year 7 science trip

Fantastic learning opportunity for our Year 7 students as they visit Chester Zoo!
Today was a very important date in our Year 7 calendar: the annual Science trip to Chester Zoo. Core to Year 7's independent learning experience, this trip is designed to develop their critical thinking, as well as their scientific knowledge and investigative skills; and it is also, of course, lots of fun!
After excitedly leaving Urmston by coach this morning:

Year 7 arrived at the zoo and were tasked with finding out information on two animals of their choice from endangered and near threatened species, orangutans, jaguars, black rhinoceros and Sulawesi crested macaques.

The students carefully made notes and found out as many facts as possible about the animals, their natural habitats, and the factors threatening their environment and survival; as well as the work carried out by Chester Zoologists on the effective management of populations of species both in situ (in the wild) and ex situ (in zoos and breeding centres) through research, conservation breeding, welfare and monitoring.

Having successfully completed their visit, Year 7 are now challenged to create informative fact files. We can't wait to see their work!

With huge thanks to all the staff who supported the trip and to our hosts at Chester Zoo!
