going out on a high

Our Year 11 football squad hang up their boots after an epic final match win!

Our fantastic Year 11 football squad has finally wrapped up their school football journey … and they ended it with a WIN!

In their final match, they faced Wellington High School — the same team that triumphed over them 11–0 back in Year 7 – but this time our boys flipped the script and smashed it 2-0!

This team has been together since Year 7, and, in the early days, things - yes we can say it - were not amazing. Most local teams were beating them pretty comfortably: we’re talking “look-away-if-you’re-squeamish” scorelines!

But then something magical happened ... they improved ... dramatically.

By Year 10, they had transformed into a genuinely superb squad. They climbed into the top tier of local schools' football, regularly taking down some of the best teams around. For two years straight, they were seriously pushing for the title!

By the end of their final season, they weren’t just good: they were one of the most respected teams in the area. From underdogs to top dogs. From “11–0 loss” to “2–0 revenge victory.” A true football fairytale.

But, as their GCSEs approach, all good things must come to an end. Thank you boys for all of your hard work, commitment, resilience and team spirit. And thank you also to Mr Bradshaw and Mr Regan, who spent countless hours coaching, organising fixtures, managing the chaos, and somehow staying patient through it all.

So … Year 11 boys … we wish you all the best for your GCSEs and we hope you'll stick around next year for a Sixth Form team and bring the magic back to the pitch for UGS!
