a new term launches

Busy start to 2026!

While it may have been chilly outside as we welcomed in 2026 at UGS, it did not slow down the pace of our brand new term.

This is an all-important time for Year 11, and this morning, Deputy Head Mr Regan delivered the first of this year's Success Assemblies (pictured above and below) for the cohort, in which he outlined core revision strategies, such as retrieval practice, and how to establish good study habits.

Mr Regan also shared the schedule of the phenomenal amount of specialised subject academic support that will be delivered by staff and available for our students to access at lunch and after school.

This has also been shared with our Year 11 Parents and Carers, who we have been delighted to welcome to Parents' Evening today. Success Assemblies will continue for Year 11 throughout the term, and we look forward to sharing updates.

Philosophy and Ethics trip

Yesterday, our Philosophy and Ethics students (pictured above) travelled to Liverpool University to compete in the Ethics Cup. Unlike traditional debating, the goal was to collaboratively tackle complex, real-world dilemmas using logic and reason. Our students performed exceptionally well, navigating eight rigorous matches, making it through to the final match of the day.

Debating Club

At lunchtime today, our ever popular and successful Debating Club (pictured above) enjoyed its first meeting of 2026, and they were delighted to welcome students from Years 7 and 8 for the very first time. It was great to see our KS3 students keen to get involved and learn all that there is to know from the team.

Watch this space for updates on all that they achieve!
