creative writing workshop

Fantastic experience for all as we welcome students from Sale High to UGS!

Yesterday afternoon, guest visitor poet and critic Warren Mortimer visited to deliver a fantastic creative writing workshop.

Not only for a cohort of our own students

But for students and staff from Sale High, who were keen to join us for the learning experience.

Warren inspired the students to create poetry based upon their reactions to a random object of their choosing from his collection.

He discussed with each participant ways in which their reactions to the object could fire their imaginations and foster their creativity.

The students then read out their finished work, with Warren congratulating them on "amongst some of the best creations he had ever heard" when conducting workshops.

After lunch, it was time to celebrate the winners of the Creative Writing competition organised by our Literacy Coordinator, Mrs McNally, for which she invited students from schools across Trafford to submit entries to a range of categories, including poetry, flash fiction and non-fiction.

We enjoyed readings of the winning entries, and it was lovely that some of the winners were students from both UGS and Sale High, who had produced outstanding pieces of work, and were presented with their certificates and prizes at the event.

A fantastic enrichment experience for all involved; with huge thanks to Warren for delivering the workshop and supporting our celebration of creativity, and to Mrs McNally for organising.
