our geographers in Iceland: day 2

The Northern Lights & another packed schedule!

It's Day 2 of our Geography trip to Iceland, and the full programme of activities continues apace.

After being treated to the breathtaking spectacle of the Northern Lights, as pictured above, the evening before.

Our students first of all enjoyed a visit to AVA: Iceland Volcano & Earthquake Centre.

Here they discovered fantastic exhibits of volcanic forces at work.

Students then participated in a Glacier Walk at Sólheimajökull.

This excursion took them on an exploration of the frozen glacier tongue of Solheimajokull.

The students got to discover and explore this wonderland of ice sculptures and deep crevasses.

Experienced glacier guides taught our students how to use basic ice equipment such as crampons and ice axes.

Last but not least, our students visited Reynisfjara.

Here, they enjoyed a walk along the magnificent black volcanic beach, and got to take in the awe-inspiring basalt cliffs and caves.

Mr Neale is proud to share that the engagement of all of our students has been outstanding,

And their conduct and enthusiasm for all the opportunities presented has been highly complimented by all of their hosts.

With huge thanks to our students for being excellent ambassadors both for UGS and team Geography, to all the accompanying staff, to our hosts, and to Mr Neale for the wonderful photographs, and we look forward to sharing updates as the trip continues,
