lest we forget

Remembrance Assembly
Mr Kennedy-Fowler delivered our Remembrance assembly this morning during which, following a beautiful piano introduction from Bryan 8M, our staff and students joined together to honour, reflect upon and commemorate the service and sacrifices of the many who gave their lives during the World Wars.

We also solemnly remembered the 30 former UGS students who died in service and to whom we have a lasting memorial in school.

Mr Kennedy-Fowler shared an impactful whole school photograph from 1933 in which it is likely that all the former students who gave their lives would have been pictured as pupils.

And movingly reflected upon the lives and service roles of 5 of the students: Donald Cato, Raymond Sherwood Jarratt, Lennox Durham, Arthur Malcolm Snape and Arthur Boucher.

Year 7 students Harrison, Gideon, Charvi, Ibuki and Adesire then read out the names of our 30 former students in tribute to their sacrifice and service.

After which Angus 10U poignantly played the Last Post:

Before we closed with a moment of mutually respectful, silent reflection. We will, of course, be proud to come together as a school community again on 11th November to pay our respects to the fallen and to join the nation in the two-minute silence.
