extracurricular programme 2026/7

This week we have been delighted to publish our brand-new extracurricular timetable for this academic year. The societies span a huge range of areas and interests, including Performing Arts, Sports & Fitness, STEM, Culture, Community, Hobbies & Academics, in addition to our enrichment provision of residential trips and our supercurricular lecture programme. During lunchtime today, the first meetings of the year took place for our hugely popular Chess Club (lead picture), who will meet every Friday lunchtime, and for the committee of our new Cultural Society (pictured below), who are planning to organise initiatives, activities and events to celebrate our brilliantly diverse school community. Watch this space for updates on all that our students participate in throughout the year!

Performing Arts

A key component of our Extracurricular Performing Arts provision is the opportunity to participate in school productions, and on Thursday after school it was a very exciting time as students were invited to audition for our forthcoming 2027 whole school production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible.

This year's Little Shop of Horrors was phenomenal, so we cannot wait for what promises to be another epic showcase of UGS talent!

Well done Yasasvi!

We're also incredibly proud to share news about Yasasvi 10S, who has been an accomplished classical dancer since the age of 5, and has been proudly awarded a Guinness World Records certificate for her role in Griffin College's record-breaking "Longest Shiva-themed Bharatanatyam Classical Repertoire".

A brilliant achievement and recognition for proudly preserving and promoting Indian classical dance and cultural heritage. Well done Yasasvi and to all who contributed to this record-breaking feat!

Whole School Assembly

This morning, Mr Regan and Mr Roberts delivered our second whole school assembly of the year on British and societal values, our core school values, on moral ambition and on being a voice for change, with a profile of inspirational figures such as Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon, whose campaigns and actions have brought about hugely impactful, positive change.

Year 11 also attended Miss Marshall's presentation on Post-16 options and the provision available to them as they plan their next steps and academic and career pathways.

A busy end to a busy first full week as we look forward to what the next one will bring here at UGS!
