meet the musician

A great opportunity for Year 7 as Performing Arts week begins!
Today, in a fantastic launch to Performing Arts week, we were delighted to welcome Roz Davies, a professional trombonist with The Hallé, for the first of our events for performing arts week.

Roz has been with the Hallé for 26 years and, after treating Year 7 to a stunning performance of an excerpt from Greenwood's"The Acrobat":

She gave a fascinating insight into the components of the trombone, the life of a musician, her journey into the profession from early childhood, and her passion for it.

Roz shared that she has been playing trombone since the age of 7 and took early steps by joining a local youth brass band, before progressing to the RNCM and Chetham's School of Music as a teenager. Although Roz first played for the Hallé when she was 19, she "officially" joined at 26 and has been there since!

Students were delighted to get the opportunity to ask questions before taking part in fun exercises in instrumental rhythm and technique.

It was great to see Year 7 so engaged in what has been an inspirational, fun and highly musical experience!

With huge thanks to Roz for taking time today to visit and inspire our students.
