year 7 careers talk

Inspirational visit from EDTEK Chief of Staff Grace Rothery

As Year 7 concluded their important week of end of year exams, we were delighted to welcome Grace Rothery, Chief of Staff of EDTEK, to deliver a fantastic presentation to the students on career pathways and her own personal journey.

Grace discussed her early school years and education and the many and varied jobs she undertook while studying, stressing the importance of the potential to build transferable skills in all areas of life, from hobbies, voluntary work and part-time jobs.

Grace also highlighted how "Careers are built, not chosen", that is, that pathways into professions are not fixed plans, straight lines or ladders, rather they are "squiggly", and that in navigating ways into the working world young people should try out many things, be curious, learn from mistakes, and build resilience.

It was great to see our Year 7 students so engaged and asking lots of questions at the end.

With huge thanks to Grace for giving her time to inspire our students, and to StateTalking for organising this wonderful opportunity for them.
