post 18 options evening

Lovely to welcome so many of our Year 12 Parents and Carers

Last night we were delighted to welcome Year 12 parents and carers to an important date on our Sixth Form calendar: Year 12 Options Evening.

Head Mr Kennedy-Fowler launched the evening with a warm welcome and an overview of the provision we offer to our Year 12 students as they prepare to take their important next steps and begin their applications to university, degree apprenticeships and alternative options to university.

Our CEIAG coordinator Amy Marshall (pictured above) opened session 1 with a presentation on pathways into apprenticeships, the sectors available, labour market and local provider's information, useful websites and resources, and examples of our student leaver destinations.

We then welcomed guest speaker (and former student) Sally Merrell, Deputy Head of Student Recruitment (Post 16 Outreach) at MMU (pictured above) who presented on the benefits of degree apprenticeships, the programmes available, and the many courses on offer at MMU.

Session 2 of the evening focused on applications to University. Head of Sixth Form Mrs Mangham-Dewhurst talked through the options for undergraduate study and the different stages and facets of the UCAS application process, including deadlines, the Personal Statement, PUGs and references, and what happens after application submission, along with all the support and provision, including a personal mentor, that is available to our students.

Head of Year 12 and Assistant Head of Sixth Form Mr Neale then presented on all that Year 12 have already participated in so far this year in preparation for the next stage of their journeys, on supporting students in making their course and university choices, and on the upcoming provision available to them.

All information presented will be made available on our website soon, with huge thanks to guest speaker Sally and to all of our parents and carers in attendance.
