celebrating creativity

Our Art and Design Technology students participate in a series of fantastic workshops!
Over the last few days, students in both our Design Technology and art departments have had the opportunity to take part in a series of brilliant workshops and have produced some fantastic work.

On Friday, a group of our Year 8 and 9 students took part in a full day's workshop in DT with Mr Barber and Mr Reid, where they designed and crafted their very own trebuchets in teams of four.

For the uninitiated, a trebuchet is a powerful medieval siege engine or catapult that uses a counterweight system to launch projectiles, such as hefty stones, over long distances by converting gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy!

And after a full day of designing and manufacturing, our students then got the opportunity to test their designs; heavy rain prevented this from happening outside, but our cloisters proved a suitable alternative testing ground!

The teams competed to see whose trebuchet could launch and fire the furthest, with huge congratulations to the winning team: Team 5, who earned 33 points with throws that were 2nd, 6th and 7th furthest out of all 15 throws. Well done!
Clay Workshop

Yesterday, our Year 10 Art GCSE students got the opportunity to take part in a clay workshop delivered by talented potter Dave Partington of Partington's Pots, who specialises in crafting hand-thrown pottery.

As you can see, Year 10 produced some fantastic pieces of work, with huge thanks to Dave for visiting to inspire our students.

And our talented Year 8 artists have also been busy adding hand embroidery into their monoprint work,

Demonstrating their fantastic art and textiles skills. We could not be more proud of the creativity of our students!
