interhouse sports day

And more as we end another busy week!

We enjoyed a fantastic interhouse sports day on Thursday that saw our KS3 students proudly wear the colours of their houses to compete in football:

Badminton:

And table tennis throughout the day.

Great levels of play, team spirit and resilience were on display, and a huge number of house points were awarded. We look forward to sharing the results!

World Book Day Assembly

Today we were delighted to celebrate both World Book Day and the National Year of Reading with a special celebratory assembly. And we are incredibly proud of Year 7 students Nell, Sharon, Sophie and Zenith, who read from their fantastic entries to our recent adventure story writing competition.

Author Visit

As a lovely finale to our week of World Book Day events, we were delighted to welcome author and scriptwriter Daniel Dockery back to UGS. He kindly took time out of his busy schedule to visit to meet with our budding Year 7 authors and to share feedback with each of them on their entries to the writing competition, and to award prizes to the winners.

Daniel guest-judged our competition and found it a difficult task to choose winners as the standard of entries was so high.

But congratulations to our overall winners: Phoebe 7R and Sophie 7R, who are pictured with Daniel after proudly receiving their prizes.

And congratulations also to our runners up: Sharon 7M, Nell 7T and Lekan 7S. Well done all!

Music for Youth Regional Festival

Last but by no means least, our talented Junior Choir performed at today's Music for Youth Regional Festival at Rochdale Town Hall.

We're incredibly proud of their knock-out performance. See the video on our socials!
