a busy beginning

Lots going on as we start a new half term with some special guests!
It's been a fantastic start to the new half-term and it opened with the ongoing mock GCSE and A level exams. We're really proud of all the hard work of our Year 11 and 13 students and know that they will achieve well-deserved successful outcomes.

Today, we have been delighted to welcome back Kirsty from Media Cubs UK, who will be working with a team of our Year 12 student reporters: Jude, Gio, Lujane, Lara, Jess and Max (lead picture) on their contribution to a youth-led media campaign to create a powerful short film sharing young people's voices on safety, respect, and supporting one another across Trafford. The project, in collaboration with local partners, will create content that will be shared in schools, online, and as part of International Women's Day activity. We're incredibly proud of the commitment of our students to making a difference and look forward to sharing updates.
Amphibian guests!

We have also welcomed some other very special visitors to our site and could not be more delighted to see (and hear!) the return of some wonderful amphibians.

In an earlier visitation than usual, marsh and common frogs have populated our school pond, and have been warmly welcomed by our school community.

It's lovely to enjoy nature in all its glory on our school grounds, and they're a wonderful addition to UGS life.
Eco Club
Today, Year 7 Eco Club enjoyed its first meeting of the new half-term, and supported by dedicated Year 12 student leaders Nils and Owen, the students have been busy creating posters to showcase their eco-friendly initiatives and raise awareness about environmental issues. Eco Club meet every Wednesday lunctime in G3 and new members are always welcome!

Save the Date: Supercurricular Community Lecture
Last but not least, we're excited to announce that the next in our series of supercurricular lectures: "What does a podcast producer actually do?" will take place on Wednesday 4th March at 5pm in our theatre and will be delivered by Antony D'Angelo, who is a senior producer at Folding Pocket (About - Folding Pocket) and leads the production of a number of award-winning podcasts,

This promises to be an insightful evening and another excellent opportunity for our students. All are welcome, and we look forward to seeing a great many of you there!
