Bletchley park visit

Our Year 12 Mathematicians & Computer Science students visit the historical code-breaking centre
Today a cohort of our Year 12 students headed to Milton Keynes to visit Bletchley Park.

The base of the World War II Government Code and Cypher School (GC & CS), whose work in penetrating the secret comms of the Axis powers, including the German enigma and Lorenz cyphers, was crucial to the war effort.

They enjoyed an interactive lesson learning about probability, calculating the possible number of combinations that the enigma machine could create for its codes (answer: 158 quintillion)!

Impressively, they were even able to have supervised access to a real enigma machine!

They enjoyed a guided tour around the many buildings of the park.

Not to mention all of its special exhibits.

And they were able to visit Alan Turing's office.

An unforgettable day's experience for our Year 12s, with huge thanks to our hosts and to all the staff who supported the trip and who make these enriching opportunities possible for our students.
