feminist society

So proud of our Feminist Society as their work receives local government recognition!
Our Feminist Society has been working hard over the last year on a great many initiatives, including girls-only Friday football sessions on our astroturf, to encourage and support girls in the sport, which has had fantastic uptake so far.

But they have also worked really hard to raise awareness about the issues impacting the lives of women and girls today, and to fund-raise for local and national women's charities.

This week, to mark White Ribbon Day, they organised a bake sale to raise funds for White Ribbon UK and a women's shelter to support those experiencing domestic violence, raising awareness amongst our school community about violence against women and girls in a thoughtful and mature way. They spoke to staff and students about the campaign and why it matters, demonstrating their compassion and sense of social responsibility.

We have always been proud of the girls and of the engagement of our students with their many initiatives; and this has been compounded this week as their work has been recognised and commended by lead Trafford Domestic Abuse officer Nicola Walton, who was so impressed by their efforts that she has asked to put UGS on the digital white ribbon that they are designing for the council website and socials to reflect our support of the cause.
It is brilliant that the work of our Feminist Society ties in with wider local and societal initiatives; and we are also extremely proud to share that it is not only our Feminist Society who have received praise. Nicola Walton also contacted us to share feedback about how pleasant, polite and engaged our Sixth Form boys were at this week's local White Ribbon Day initiative in Eden Square, organised by representatives from Trafford Rape Crisis, Trafford Domestic Abuse Service, and Talk, Listen, Change: "It really was a pleasure to interact with such pleasant, polite young men. They are a credit to your school and I hope you are very proud of them".
We certainly are: our Feminist Society and Sixth Form students are not only amazing ambassadors for UGS, but role models within our school and wider community, and upholders of our core school values of Pride, Participation and Empathy. Well done!
