battlefields day 3

Our students are now in Belgium on their World War One History trip

After a busy and impactful day in France yesterday, visiting the Musee Somme, Thiepval Woods, and Lochnagar Crater, Year 9 students and staff headed over the border to Belgium to the historic city of Ypres.

This morning they had an early start and their first port of call was In Flanders Field Museum:

Here they participated in a workshop on medical care in the trenches (a GCSE topic).

They then got to experience a feeling of what life would have been like in the trench network for servicemen at Hill 62.

It was then time for lunch and some free time in scenic Ypres.

This afternoon they visited the Passchendaele Museum where they learnt more about the 1917 Battle of Passchendaele.

Before a poignant experience at Tyne Cot Cemetery.

Finally, this evening, our students attended the Last Post ceremony at Menin Gate, where they respectfully laid wreaths to honour the fallen soldiers.

A fitting way to end what has been an enriching and thought-provoking trip.

We wish all our students and staff a safe journey back tomorrow.
