Our Sixth Form students participate in MUNCH25!
Our Sixth Form MUN (Model United Nations) Club launched earlier this year, and a cohort of our students have been meeting weekly for this extracurricular and enrichment opportunity. This weekend, they attended MUNCH 25, aka the 2025 Model United Nations Conference at Cheadle Hulme School.
Here, they were able to put their skills and comprehension of world-wide ethical issues into practice.
Our students proudly represented UGS, taking part in a full weekend's programme of debates.
These involved over 300 delegates from 18 schools, and we are incredibly proud to share that UGS MUN earned 5 awards:
Mobeen: Highly Commended in Committee and Highly Commended in GA
Lara: Highly Commended
Max: Special Mention
Noor: Special Mention
As detailed on the United Nations website, the premise of MUN is to enable and facilitate the engagement of students with the UN's goals and objectives. Participation in the simulations and debates supports a student's personal, academic, ethical and professional development, and is hugely beneficial to the pathways that they aim to pursue:
Model UN simulations engage hundreds of thousands of students each year, helping them to learn more about the principles of the UN and how it functions. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including at the UN itself – participated in Model UN as students.
The United Nations supports Model UN simulations by building and maintaining strong links between the UN and Model UN participants. It does this by sharing first-hand knowledge about the work of the UN at Model UN conferences; providing guidance with organisers to create accurate and authentic simulations; and encouraging Model UN clubs to take concrete action to support UN values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).1
Really well done all and we look forward to sharing updates on all that they achieve!
