celebration of ugs perspectives magazine team

Special event today to recognise the achievements of our fantastic school magazine team

At break today, Mrs Wall and Miss Hammond were delighted to invite all of the students from across the year groups, from year 7 through to Sixth Form, who have been working together diligently on writing, editing and producing our amazing school magazine Perspectives, that recently enjoyed its inaugural print edition, and is published half-termly on the school website.

The team are pictured above at the celebration in our Conference room, where Mrs Wall and Perspectives co-ordinator Miss Hammond, shared their pride in them all.

As Mrs Wall observed, Perspectives is a "remarkable publication" that represents so much more than a development of literacy; as she told the team, they are "doing everything that we as a school want from UG students ... you are making us all feel proud of all that you achieve".

The publication is a testament to the commitment to intellectual enquiry, approach to wider learning, and community engagement of all of the students who work together to contribute to its production; and in fact, it is a progression of school heritage and tradition, that takes its name from the very first UGS school magazine that entered the realm around 50 years ago.

The team shared that they find working on Perspectives hugely rewarding and enriching: they greatly enjoy not only the opportunity to research and write on a wide variety of fields, but to share their perspectives on socio-cultural, historical and literary matters with the school and wider community via the platform; and that they value the shared experience of cross-year group endeavour.

It is with sadness that some of the team, our Year 13s, will shortly move on to pastures new as they leave UGS for the start of the A Level exam season; but Mrs Wall, Miss Hammond and the team thanked them for all their hard work, and wished them well in their next steps as they progress into Higher education and professional pathways.

Perspectives has recently submitted its entry to the national Shine School Media awards, and we wish them the very best of luck in the competition, and we cannot wait to share news of how they get on!
