new books to support new reading challenge

Students excited to browse new arrivals in the Library and to recommend their must reads!

Following the success of our recent well-attended World Book Day Book Fair, we have been able to acquire some brand new best-selling titles to add to our range on the library shelves, and pictured above are the first of our students - Oliver, Grace, Oliver, Rosie, Isla & Aline - who popped in to have a browse at break today, and to select some new reading material to help them along in our New Term House Challenge: Spring into Reading.

Also pictured below with the book that she has just completed is one of our current Reading Champions Poppy 7T, and she is delighted to share her insightful recommendation:

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

In my opinion, this is a very good book that I would recommend to others who enjoy historical fiction. Looking at WWII from the point of view of both a Dane, and a 10 year old girl, really opens your eyes to different points of view on important events in our world’s history.

The book is set in Copenhagen during WWII and is the story of a 10-year-old’s experiences during this war. She has a Jewish friend and is surrounded by people doing and saying things that she doesn’t understand, to do everything that they can to save the Jewish people.

This book will make you laugh and cry, and it will open your eyes to a different perspective on a very important event. I would definitely say that it is a must read: 5/5 stars!

Really well done all, and we look forward to providing updates on the progress of our House Reading Challenge!
