british science week at ugs: day 4

The Iodine Clock Challenge and explorations of the eye

It's Day 4 of British Science Week here at UGS, and today it was the turn of KS4 students to be given the opportunity to expand their scientific explorations during extracurricular lunchtime sessions.

In the lead picture are some of our Year 10s who took part in The Iodine Clock Challenge, led by Mr Parker and Mrs Walsh.

A good fit with this year's Science Week theme of time, the students were tasked with the experiment of formulating and securing a chemical reaction in as close to 60 seconds as they were able to.

Exploring the Eye

In another of our labs, Mr Mumford headed up an exploratory ophthalmological session on the eye, its composition and how it works, and is pictured below with some of the Year 10s who took part.

Another great day of Science enrichment at UGS, with another yet to come!

Huge thanks to the staff and technicians who led and supported today's sessions, and to the students for their enthusiastic participation.
