The great UGS Book Swap!

Happy World Book Day!

We started our celebrations on Tuesday with the Year 7 Golden Ticket Search, and today the ever popular Book Swap took place.

Pictured below are some of the contributions that were brought in, set up and waiting for a new home!

For this special WBD House event, students were asked to bring in a book from home to swap for someone else's, and we couldn't be more pleased with the fantastic level of participation from our students.

In our lead montage and the pictures that follow are just some of the students who took part, arriving to select their books from the Swap:

And a big shout out to Year 7 Kelvin, who brought in not one but six books for the Swap, and is pictured with his selections that he's looking forward to taking home:

There's still plenty more to look forward to: a Book Fair arrives on Monday and will be on site up to and including Thursday 14th March; students will be able to redeem their WBD vouchers against the purchase of a new book, all while helping us to earn free books for school.

The principal theme that we are focusing on for WBD this year is Bringing Words to Life and a critical exploration of screen adaptations of literature, and how these can contribute to and enrich our understanding and love of texts and reading. This will form the core of our up-coming celebratory World Book Day Assembly, and we look forward to students sharing their contributions.

Huge thanks to our fantastic students for taking part in this event and for making a vital contribution to our ongoing reading and literacy programme; and we are also grateful to our wider community of parents and carers for supporting and encouraging our students in the initiatives and special events that are so integral to our core UGS values and ethos.
