library house golden ticket event

Students from Year 7 compete to find the Golden Tickets in the first of our WBD celebrations!

It's World Book Day on Thursday and to kickstart our celebrations here at UGS, we held the first of our events just for Year 7: the now legendary search for the Golden Tickets!

At lunchtime in our Reading Room, Year 7 were challenged to assemble for a House event to pit their wits in order to solve the bookish clues that would unscramble in which titles the Golden Tickets were hidden.

Pictured above and below are just some of our contenders, and they did us all proud as they tracked down not one but four Golden tickets.

Answering questions about books ranging from the classics to contemporary bestsellers, they then had to tackle the final conundrum and solve the anagram that would lead them to the books hiding the elusive Golden Tickets.

First to triumph were Kathryn, Medha, Charley, Dheethya and Sankari, who tracked Ticket 1 to Dahl's Matilda. Followed by Poppy, Izzy and Beth, who traced Ticket 2 to Bronte's Jane Eyre. Anjola, Emma and Alaina then succeeded in locating the third ticket in Orwell's Animal Farm, and, last but not least, Lottie, Maryam, Aamna and Tina solved what were perhaps the most challenging clues to locate the final ticket in Colfer's Artemis Fowl.

Our Golden Ticket winners are pictured below proudly enjoying their moment:

Really well done, and to all the Year 7s who took part, for your superb level of participation in today's event, and for demonstrating impressive literary knowledge and enthusiasm, and conundrum-solving skills!

We can't wait for the rest of our WBD events, including Thursday's Book Swap, next week's Book Fair, and our celebratory Assembly!
