artists of the week!

So proud of the outstanding work of our Year 8 Artists

It's the time of the week to enjoy and celebrate the superb and inspired aesthetic productions of our students here at UGS, and this week the Art, Craft and Design department are thrilled to announce that their Artists of the Week are Year 8 students Sadie V, Hafizah K and Anna G.

We are delighted to showcase their work in our lead montage and below, and Head of Department Mrs Nanvazadeh here provides a Unit overview and the context for the talented pieces of work:

The classrooms of today are perhaps more culturally diverse than ever before. By celebrating the differences in culture, both in class and the wider school, students and families are made to feel cared for and included.

It also enriches the lives of other students by exposing them to the beauty of another culture.

Art & Design offers a platform for students to express themselves creatively and to explore different perspectives and cultures.

Hafizah

By promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, students can gain a broader understanding and appreciation of different cultures and identities, that can enhance their creativity and artistic expression.

Hafizah

This unit of work has been designed specifically to support students in learning about Ramadan, and about how it is celebrated by Muslim families.

At the end of the month of Ramadan, the festival of Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated. This happens on the first day of the next month, Shawwal.

Hafizah

When the crescent moon is spotted in the night sky, Muslims know that the month of Ramadan has ended, and the festival of Eid can begin.

Sadie

It’s time for parties, gathering with family and friends, giving presents, and celebrating. It is traditional to paint lovely henna “mehndi” designs on the hands for celebrations such as Eid.

Anna

Exploring wax resist techniques including Batik, students will create their own hand-stitched textile piece that can also be made into a functional item such as a pillow.

Anna

Really well done all, you are simply amazing. With huge thanks to the students and to the department for sharing their creations.
