year 7 creativity inspired by classic poetry

English department proud to showcase Year 7 work inspired by Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Year 7 have been studying Samuel Taylor Coleridge's phenomenal poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, from the volume Lyrical Ballads (1797-8), and English teacher Mr Connell, who teaches 7R, shares that he has been truly impressed by their level of engagement with this challenging piece of verse.

Having read, analysed, and discussed the poem, the students were then tasked with creating storyboards inspired by their understanding and appreciation of it.

All were outstanding, but Mr Connell would particularly like to recognise the designs produced by Ethan 7R:

and Phoebe 7R:

These designs are a truly wonderful, insightful response to a complex poem, and we are delighted to be able to celebrate them.

With huge thanks to Mr Connell and our students for sharing these inspired pieces of work.
