new year reading buddies

Lovely start to new term with a refresh of our Reading Buddies programme

It has been great this morning to see the enthusiastic New Year new term restart of our Reading Buddies programme, which is the continuation of a great literacy partnership between our Sixth Form students and Year 7 readers. Just some of the students taking part are pictured above in the LRC, while others meet in alternative spaces around school.

As Literacy lead Miss Hammond explains: "Our reading buddies programme has been set up in order that our sixth form students can share their own passion for reading and hopefully impart some wisdom to our year 7 students! During form time, year 7 students meet with their buddies to read together. This is a great way for our year 7s to practise their reading skills and to find a friendly face amongst the older pupils".

It has been a huge success so far, and we have welcomed even more students into the initiative this year, both Sixth Form volunteers and Year 7 participants.

A really fantastic example of students from across the school community working together and demonstrating our core UGS values of Pride, Participation and Empathy, while at the same time hitting literacy goals, and clearly delighting in the joy of reading.
