commissioner's commendation for william

So proud of William 8M who has been awarded a rare commendation from the Scouts Commissioner

We are incredibly proud to share news about Year 8 William, who, at Scouts last night, was awarded a rare Commissioner's Commendation.

This is a extraordinary honour and only given out in exceptional circumstances, to Scouts who have gone above and beyond, and who in doing so demonstrate outstanding Scouting spirit.

William drew recognition for his truly inspiring efforts over Remembrance weekend. All scouts were due to take part in the Remembrance Sunday parade on Sunday 12th November; but William, conscious of the fact that Armistice Day itself fell on Saturday 11th, took the decision of his own volition to honour the fallen that day, and fully independently proudly wore his Scout uniform and took his bugle to play the last post at the cenotaph in Urmston.

William's actions moved the local community, who gathered to solemnly listen and appreciate his touching and moving Remembrance commemoration.

At the special awards ceremony last night, William was commended and celebrated not only for being an outstanding exemplar of the scout spirit and scouting values, but for being a role model to young people, to the local community and to wider society.

We could not be more proud as a school, really well done, and with huge thanks to William and his family for sharing this marvellous news with us.
