Urmston GrammarHeadteacher Mrs R Wall and Year 8 student Ange Boli were at 10 Downing Street (on Monday) last week. Mrs Wall was there by special invitation, and she was allowed to choose one student from the school to accompany her.
At the Prime Minister’s residence, Mrs Wall and Ange first met with the Secretary of State for Education, Justine Greening, and they were then introduced to PM Theresa May. Also present were a number of heads from other grammar schools, independent schools and faith schools from across the country, as well as reps from universities with links to state schools and who are eager to facilitate social mobility.
The Prime Minister and Education Secretary were keen to hear from heads and students alike of the great work that goes on in these schools, and they took the opportunity to express the government’s commitment to their vision of creating good schools for everyone.
When interviewed at Number 10, Ange said: “My education is important to me and I am aiming quite high, so to go to a grammar school is amazing.”
Mrs Wall said that it had been “an amazing privilege to represent the school with Ange at 10 Downing Street.”
